Australia is one of the well developed countries. From education point of view, it is also forward. Some world famous universities are here so students come to Australia from other countries also. The total number of international students in Australia at April 2004 was 237,235, an increase of 7.7 per cent over the previous year. Australian Education Sustem They come from USA, England, Europe, Asia, India, China and many other nations choose to study in Australia. They come because of the worldwide acceptance and respect for Australian degrees and qualifications.

Australian Education System: The education system of Australia consists of total 12 years, which includes Primary education, Secondary education and Higher Secondary, and University levels.
Schools Level education is compulsory in Australia for children aged between 6 and 15, with matriculation exams for university generally at 18 years old. School Education Australian schools provide high quality education in a multicultural environment as a foundation for lifelong learning. Australian schools are public (government) and private (religious or independent).
1. Government (public) schools are run by each State Department of Education and regulated by a centralized Government body 2. Independent (private) schools usually have a religious affiliation and are controlled by a school board.
The student goes for secondary school with 12/13 years (year 8), and is he/she is only compulsorily required to stay to year 10, receiving a junior high school certificate but not a high school certificate. The year 11 (15/16 YO) and 12 (16/17 YO), are optional but are required to be successfully completed to attain a high school diploma. Some of the options for those students leaving the school in year 10 include training -apprenticeship, to enter the work force or to study in any vocational course.

Higher Education Vocational Education: Australia is renowned for its vocational education. There are many private and government vocational institutes. Courses have a practical focus and many provide work placements. They are designed with professional and industry bodies to meet the current needs of the global marketplace. There are courses for careers in every industry from engineering to computer programming, cookery to hotel management, legal studies to business management. There are both private and government Universities in Australia. These universities offer programs called "Under Graduate", and after graduation courses called "Graduate Programs or Post Graduate". In general the time of duration of the Graduate Certificates =6 months, Master=1 year, Master Honour=1.5 year, Doctorate= 2 years.

Australia is a popular place for international students to study English, whether it's for education, career or travel purposes. Australia is renowned for its teaching of English language courses. English is the national language of Australia, so you'll be learning from native speakers inside and outside the classroom. For International students who wish to study in Australia, tests are conducted (like IELTS & TOFEL) to measure the level of English. Requirements to Study in Australia: The criteria for enrolment in a University vary depending on the institution. But generally besides the official translated documents, you will need to show:

  • Evidence of English knowledge/level (all institutions will require).
  • Evidence of study, for example, If High School was not done in Australia need to show similar qualification, recognized by NOOSR, (Australian department for recognition of foreign aptitudes).
  • Have already done at least 1 year in a university. If a person has not done a previous year in a University than an Australia course called Foundation during 6 months up to 1 year will guarantee entry in the University.
